Howdy from Houston! I have been traveling for about the last month.
I started in New York City and caught up with a handful of (incredible) friends, visited a ridiculous number of galleries, a couple of art fairs and some museums, met Wolfgang Tillmans and saw his new amazing show at MoMA, walked 25,000 steps in one day, and had overall had a delicious time.
Biggest shoutout - my friend Paula Wilson just had a stellar solo show open at Denny Dimin Gallery and I was so glad to be able to see it. If you are in NYC, seriously don’t sleep on it.
From New York, I took a journey to British Colombia, where I was able to take an amazing photo book workshop via FOTOFILMIC, taught by Christian Patterson. Excited about the projects that I have in the works currently.
And now I’m in Texas! If you are in town for Fotofest or just live here, hit me up! Anyone have recommendations for wildlife viewing along the Gulf Coast?
As you may have noticed, this is my first time using Substack. I read and follow a lot of newsletters (yes, dorky) and it seems this is one of the most common platforms people are using lately. I’m excited to try it, and hope you’ll stick with me! Always here for suggestions and feedback.
I can’t stop thinking about Fire of Love. 10/10. Definitely cried at the theater. Volcanoes and romance make a great pairing.
Lastly, here’s one of my recent editorial pieces.
P.S. In Canada I bought fresh chanterelle mushrooms and put in my morning eggs and what a dreamy breakfast addition.
Mushroom people - what’s fruiting this fall where you live?
As always, thank you for reading and taking an interest in what I’m up to.
Love,
Mad
Great to see you here, Madeline! Did you have a good time at FotoFest?
I found a few chickens (one over 80 lb, only took a couple pounds). Right now it's maitake season in the woods near oaks. I'm seeing a lot of black trumpets in duff and inky caps on hard road grades. Pretty abundant after a dry hot summer. <3
